The blue gray of the larvikite contrast with the copper creating a striking combination. Larvikite has a distinctive appearance that sets it apart from other rocks. It has a dark, mottled gray to black base color. The most notable characteristic of larvikite is the presence of labradorescence, which can produce striking flashes of blue, silver, or green when the stone is viewed from different angles. Larvikite takes its name from the town of Larvik in Norway, where it was first discovered.
